Special Treat for St. Patrick's Day
LIVE
WINE LINK It was in 432 when Saint Patrick led a group of monks to Ireland where they brought Christianity and, even better, the art of distillation. To be sure, Ireland is the true home of whiskey with the “e”. Unfortunately, it was the Irish again who on Christmas Day in 1661 introduced the first tax on whiskey! While rounds of Guinness are great for the pub, real connoisseurs will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this Thursday, March 17th with something special - Jameson 18-Year-Old Master Selection Irish Whiskey. Here is your ultimate sipping whiskey, perfect served chilled or on the rocks perhaps with the slightest splash of spring water. Its honeyed, smooth, woodsy, caramel tinged flavors are wonderfully seductive. This elixir is distilled from grain with only half the barley being malted. It travels through the traditional pot still three times. It may cost three times as much as your everyday Jameson, but for Patrick’s sake, it’s worth it. In British Colombia it is $79.95 (sku 68155); Ontario $80.20 (cspc 600478); and $79.54 in New Brunswick (cspc 813649). For those living in Ontario, the good news is that the entire 2005 Canadian allocation of 200 cases will be parked at the LCBO. The bad news is that the price will soon be going up to $89.95. Those living in BC or NB better grab whatever bottles remain as the shelves will be empty! Hopefully, we will see a more equitable distribution in 2006. 2001-2002-2003-2004-2005
