It's
Canadian, fortified and exudes sweet raspberries: Michael
Vaughan's Bottle of the Week
LIVE
WINE LINK Tired of winter? Yearning for a taste of summer? Time to set the taste buds ablaze with the sweet deliciousness of ripe raspberries as encapsulated in one of Canada’s finest dessert fruit wines. While the award-winning Southbrook Framboise (CSPC 341024) was the first Canadian wine to grace the shelves of Harrods of London, it is still a bit hard to track down here at home. With 14.5% alcohol, it is actually a fortified wine where the fermenting still sweet raspberry juice is halted by the addition of pure Ontario distilled grape spirit. Look for dense, sweet but balanced, lively, raspberry essence with a lingering finish. The tax-inclusive 375 ml price varies from $16.25 in B.C.; $15.59 Alberta (Willow Park); $18.35 Manitoba (Kennaston Wine Market in Winnipeg); $14.95 Ontario; $18.91 New Brunswick; $19.00 Newfoundland. Take note that the similarly priced Southbrook Cassis (339044) is considered by black currant fans to be even better! 2001-2002-2003-2004-2005
