GRAND RESERVE MERITAGE 2020 VQA Niagara Peninsula
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer JACKSON-TRIGGS
This hefty Bordeaux-blend (Meritage as it is called) consists of 45% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Franc 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. It has a very deep intense purple colour and has an intense, slightly spicy, intense, ripe, plum-black-cherry purée nose with lots of toasty, cedary-vanilla notes. Dry, medium-full to full bodied, very bright, well structured, intense, youthful, grippy, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with some licorice-sandalwood notes on the lingering, very cedary finish. Aged for 18 months in French and American oak with full secondary malolactic fermentation, it has 13% alcohol, 1.7 g/L residual sugar and 6.2 g/L total acidity with lot number L220818 on the lower part of the glass bottle meaning that it was bottled on August 18, 2022. Will improve - ideally should be cellared for 2-3 years to evolve and mellow out. CSPC 594002
