CHÂTEAU COUFRAN 2010 AC Haut-Médoc |

NEW in Vintages. Deep intense garnet-red colour. While no longer “really fragrant and fresh” it has a pungent, slightly spicy, complex, maturing, Damson plum nose with some earthy, autumnal forest floor and sandalwood notes. Very dry, medium-full to full bodied, intense, dense, mature, baked plum flavours with a lingering, very faintly bitter, black liquorice tinged, slightly dusty, minerally, rather savoury finish. The mature blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged in French oak for 12 months (25% new) and has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 10-12-145 on the lower part of the glass bottle. It is frustrating to find many releases much cheaper at Quebec’s SAQ - this one for only $36 - almost $8 cheaper a bottle. |

TASTING NOTE: [The high percentage of Merlot used by Château Coufran has seen the property dubbed the \"Pomerol of the Médoc.\" A great opportunity to enjoy mature Bordeaux from a sophisticated, long-lived vintage.] 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Lovely black liquorice and spice notes. Really fragrant and fresh. The style of St Émilion without the heaviness. Drink [till] 2026. Score - 16.5+ (out of 20) (Richard Hemming, MW, jancisrobinson.com, Nov. 21, 2012) |
