RESERVA GARNACHA/TEMPRANILLO/CARIÑENA 2018 DO Cariñena
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MONASTERIO DE LAS VIÑAS
This 19th Vintages release since 2010 has a fairly deep purple-ruby colour. Attractive, gently cedary, slightly spicy, intense, ripe plum purée nose with some cassis-tinged, sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, bright, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, tangy, gently cedary, well textured finish. This very tasty “12 months barrel blend” of 40% Garnacha, 40% Tempranillo, 10% Cariñena and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 12 months in 70% American and 30% French oak and has 13.5% alcohol and under 3 g/L residual sugar with a NEW lot number L238199 on the back label. Versatile, delicious and ready-to-drink. CSPC 166579

A Best Buy
Plenty of licorice to the savory cumin spices and plums, which give it a slightly old-school feel. Lots of chalky tannins, laden with spiced-strawberry and bright cherry flavors. Fruity, but restrained, with fruit sweetness. Garnacha, tempranillo, carinena and cabernet sauvignon. Drink now [through 2025]. Score - 90. (jamessuckling.com, Sept. 9, 2022)
