VIÑA CUBILLO CRIANZA 2014 DOCa Rioja
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer R. LÓPEZ DE HEREDIA
This outstanding 2014 Vina Cubillo has a fairly deep intense ruby colour with a slightly ambering edge. Complex, mineral-driven, very faintly herbal, intense, ripe, plummy-red-and-black-cherry nose with a touch of cassis and elegant, cedar-sandalwood notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, quite extracty, minerally, bright, ripe, red-cherry-driven, Damson plum flavours with a lingering, still fairly youthful, cedar-chestnut finish. It is now 9-years-old and there are still lots of youthful ripe tannins present. This blend of 65% Tempranillo, 25% Garnacho and 10% Mazuelo and Graciano has 13.5% alcohol with a healthy 6.5 g/L total acidity (lot number L-1044 on the back label). It was aged for 3 years in American oak barrels (225 l) and is unfiltered. Perfection with a rare steak, don’t miss this deal of the release. CSPC 692780

A Best Buy
TASTING NOTE: An earthy, well-aged Rioja with complex aromas of dried oranges, savory dried plums, mushrooms, tobacco and wet leaves. Distinctively zesty with bright, citrusy fruit on the medium-bodied palate, rounded by firm, juicy tannins. Quite a long, outstanding entry-level red from this traditional producer. Very drinkable now, but will also hold [through 2028+]. Score - 94 (jamessuckling.com, Sept. 9, 2022) Price $ 33.95
