VIÑA BOSCONIA RESERVA 2011 DOCa Rioja
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer R. LÓPEZ DE HEREDIA
PRICE UPDATE - Save $9.70 - NOW $44.25. Founded in 1877, this family-run bodega is the oldest in Haro and was one of the first three in Rioja. This 2011 has a fairly deep intense garnet red colour with an amber edge. The nose is intense and quite complex with mineral-driven, ripe, Damson-plum-cassis-cherry fruit along with refined cedary notes. Dry, medium-full to full bodied and well structured with intense, plum-red-cherry-cassis fruit flavours followed up by a minerally, lingering, rather cedary, bright, still youthful finish. Aged 5 years in American oak (225 litres), this has a hefty 6.5 g/L total acidity and is unfiltered. This new blend of 80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha and 5% Graciano and Mazuelo has 13.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L-1025 on the back label. It still needs time! CSPC 529586

TASTING NOTE: A very complex, aged Rioja with savory plums, mushrooms, bark, red earth, orange peel and cedar. Quite juicy, fresh and bright on the palate with a tangy, zesty palate, full of berries and oranges. Firm, long and complex with a mouthwatering finish. Such a traditional taste!
