LES PIERREUX BROUILLY 2018 Sustainable, AC
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer DOMAINE D'ARGENSON
While dining with Julia Child many years ago, I asked her what is the best wine to go with her Coq au Vin recipe. She replied that a good Brouilly was to die for. Here it is! This deep purple-red coloured 100% Gamay from the excellent 2018 has a fragrant, lively, ripe, cherry-cassis-raspberry nose. Dry, medium-plus bodied, well structured, ripe, black-currant-tinged, Damson plum fruit followed up by a lingering, bright, harmonious finish. The secret: handpicked grapes from 50-year-old vines with a 14-day whole grape semi-carbonic maceration in concrete and steel tanks followed up light filtration and no fining. An astonishing find - a versatile, ready-to-drink bargain. It has 13.4% alcohol, 3.4 g/L residual sugar and a hefty, lifesaving 7.3 g/L total acidity. Instead of Nouveau on Thursday November 16 toast La Grande Dame of French Cooking with this great Brouilly. CSPC 29970
