LES VILLAGES BENCH PINOT NOIR 2021 VQA Niagara Escarpment |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
BACHELDER |
Medium red colour with a hint of amber on the edge. Still somewhat closed with gently spicy, ripe plum nose with some sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, spicy, very bright, somewhat savoury, youthful, plummy, dried cherry flavours with a lingering, crisp, fairly high acid, raspberry-anise-tinged finish. It has 12.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L2023-03-29-06 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Bottled only 7 months ago, it still needs time to evolve - perhaps another year or so. |

TASTING NOTE: The Bench Pinot is sourced from the Wismer-Parke, Wismer Wild West End, Saunders, and McNally vineyards. It shows a little lighter colour in the glass than the NOTL Pinot but nose lights up with bright cherries, fresh-picked raspberries, and integrated spice notes. It's riper and denser on the palate with a melange of red berries, a touch of anise, smooth tannins, and lip-smacking freshness on the vibrant finish. Score - 91 (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, May 1, 2023)` |
