RESERVA CARMENÈRE 2021 Valle de Rapel |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
VOLCANES DE CHILE |
NEW in Vintages. This blend of 85% Carmenere and 15% Merlot is fermented in stainless steel and then transferred to French and American oak casks where it undergoes malolactic fermentation and ageing for 8 to 9 months. It has a deep violet-red colour and an intense, fresh, spicy, faintly savoury, youthful, ripe, plummy-crancherry aromas with some gently cedary, minerally notes. It is dry, medium bodied, harmonious and somewhat spicy with fresh, fairly crisp, ripe, plum and black cherry fruit flavours and a lingering, bright finish. With 13.5% alcohol, under 4 g/L residual sugar and lot number L23166 on the back label, it is a versatile, ready-to-drink, casual, crowd-pleaser. |

TASTING NOTE: As the name implies, fruit for this wine was sourced from vines planted in mineral-rich volcanic soils with loamy clay. Aged in a mix of French and American oak casks, this Carmenère is fruity and spicy, with a notably high minerality leading to flavours of dark cherry, licorice root, smoke, and baking spices. Drink through 2026+ or enjoy tonight with black-bean empanadas. |
