GRAN MALBEC 2020 Gualtallary, Valle de Uco, Mendoza |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
ALTA YARÍ |
NEW in Vintages. Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, gently complex, vibrant, fresh, ripe Damson plum fruit on the nose with some minerally, gently ceday notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, very well structured, slightly spicy, concentrated, ripe, Damson plum fruit with great mouthfeel and a lingering, well balanced, gently cedary, elegant finish. Aged in French oak barrels for 16 months, it has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L13623 on the back label. Capable of aging well for another decade. |

TASTING NOTE: For the Gran Malbec, winemaker Juan Bruzzone opts for vineyards planted with the bush style gobelet system 14 years ago on stony, calcareous soils at an altitude of about 1,500 meters. That's where the malbec is transformed. It stops being the friendly red from warmer zones and becomes a piercing, sharp-angled red with pronounced acidity and notes of red fruits and flowers as well as earthy touches that lend complexity in a wine that is all character and sense of place. [Enjoy through 2035.] Score - 95 (Patricio Tapia, guiadescorchados.cl, 2022) |
