CHÂTEAU DE SALES 2021 AC Pomerol |

NEW in Vintages. Pomerol is the smallest of the major fine wine regions in Bordeaux only three kilometers wide and 4 kilometers long on the Right Bank. Chateau de Sales has been family-owned since 1464. Deep violet-tinged garnet colour. Refined, very gently spicy, bright, ripe, attractive, fresh, plum-black-cherry fruit with a touch of cassis and hint of sandalwood. Dry medium to medium-full bodied, quite well structured, harmonious, ripe, cherry-plum flavours with a lingering, gently complex, sandalwood finish along with a touch of bright minerally licorice-cassis. This blend of 83% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc was aged for 12 months in French oak (5% new and the balance 1-3 years old). It is surprisingly drinkable/enjoyable now and should improve with proper cellaring over the next decade. |

TASTING NOTE: 92-94. Barrel Sample. The wood aging of this wine, just beginning, is already underlining the fine quality of the black fruits. The tannins of this finely structured wine are powerful while leaving room for the juicy flavors to show strongly. [Give this another 1-2 years and then enjoy through mid-2030s and perhaps beyond.] Score - 93 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, June 20, 2022) |
