BUTCHERS BLOCK RED BLEND 2019 Tanunda, Barossa Valley, South Australia |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
TURKEY FLAT |
Another Vintages veteran with now 8 previous releases going back to 2012. This crowd-pleaser has a deep intense purple colour. Attractive, quite spicy,-juicy, ripe plum-black cherry-raspberry puree nose with a hint of vanilla. Quite dry, medium to medium-full bodied, nicely structured, spicy, smooth, juicy, ripe plummy-raspberry-crancherry flavours with a lingering, bright, cedar-tinged finish. Has 14.5% alcohol and under 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L0818 on the back label. Screwcap closure. This blend of 46% Shiraz, 38% Grenache and 16% Mataro (9% whole bunch fruit) was aged in French oak of which only 2% was new. It’s ready-to-drink and versatile - from Asian pot stickers to bbq ribs. |

TASTING NOTE: Grenache, shiraz and mataro from original vines on the estate Bethany vineyard. Marrying the exuberant, fragrant, exotic and herbal lift of whole-bunch fermentation while upholding varietal definition, integrity and graceful palate flow is an art form. Mark Bulman has again shown his talent in this bargain blend. Flamboyant and multi-faceted in its complexity, drawing into a tail of fine-grained texture and polished persistence. Benchmark bargain. Drink by: 2024. Special Value. Score - 95 (Tyson Stelzer, winecompanion.com.au, Aug. 13, 2021) |
