DIRECTOR'S CUT CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2019 Alexander Valley, Sonoma County
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA
Very deep intense purple colour, it has a rich, somewhat spicy, intense, ripe, plummy-cherry-cassis nose with lots of cedary notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, spicy, intense, juicy, ripe, plummy, black cherry flavours with a lingering, cassis-tinged, rather cedary (shades of Rioja-Gran-Reserva) finish. This new blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petite Sirah and 2% Syrah has 13.9% alcohol and a decent 6.2 g/L total acidity with lot number 29421 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Aged for 15 months in French oak with 40% new barrels. While this California crowd-pleaser has nothing to do stylistically with Bordeaux, it excels in a large Riedel 001 glass served with a rack of lamb or steak. TASTING NOTE: Toasted oak nuances spice up the aroma of this well-balanced and nicely structured wine before blueberries and black cherries dominate the palate. It offers excellent concentration, well-delineated fruit flavors and ample oak accents of toast, vanilla and cinnamon. Score - 91 (Jim Gordon, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 31, 2022) Price $ 39.95
