CHÂTEAU ROUGET 2018 AC Pomerol |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
|
This Chateau is situated between L'Eglise Clinet and Le Gay. Already organic, the 18 hc estate is planted with 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Intense purple-garnet colour. Attractive, intense, ripe, harmonious, Damson plum, red and black cherry and cassis fruit on the nose with some gently complex, very faintly earthy, cedar-sandalwood notes. Dry medium-plus bodied, harmonious albeit well structured, very gently spicy, bright, ripe, Damson-plum-raspberry-cassis flavours with a lingering, lifted, well balanced, gently cedary finish. Showing very nicely now and should improve. It has 14.5% alcohol, under 2 g/L residual sugar and underwent 40% barrel fermentation (30% new) with the balance in oak vats. |

TASTING NOTE: Blueberries, blackberries, elderberries, mushrooms and earthy notes. Spices as well. It's full-bodied with an unctuous texture. Balanced and savory with a fine, chewy tannin structure. Flavorful finish with length. One of the best ever from here. Try after 2025 [and for another 15+ years after]. Score - 97 (jamessuckling.com, Feb. 3, 2022) |
