RESERVE CABERNET FRANC 2020 VQA Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
INNISKILLIN |
Youthful deep intense purple colour. Gently savoury, slightly spicy, ripe, plummy-crancherry fruit on the nose along with some cedary, notes. Dry, medium-plus bodie and quite well structure with slightly spicy, faintly leathery, youthful, bright, intense, ripe, plum-crancherry flavours followed up by a lingering, faintly savoury, cedary, raspberry-tinged, still-grippy finish. It seems that it could use another year or so of aging, so you might wish to decant before drinking today. This 100% Cabernet Franc was barrel aged for 14 months (20% new oak) and has full malolactic. It has 13.5% alcohol, 1.6 g/L residual sugar and a hefty 6.45 g/L total acidity with bottling lot number L200817 on the lower part of the glass bottle. |

TASTING NOTE: Clean, professionally made wine that takes advantage of the warm 2020 growing season in Ontario, Inniskillin's cabernet franc delivers a waft of good quality oak spice up front over dark berry fruit in the varietal idiom. The palate is medium-full (13.5% alcohol declared), with plenty of dark raspberry and vanilla flavour, supple but abundant tannins and balanced acids. Well made all in all, drinking now or hold 2-4 years. Tasted April 2023. Score - 90 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com) |
