GIGONDAS 2019 AP
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer XAVIER VIGNON
NEW in Vintages this blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre has a still youthful fairly deep purple colour and a charming, violet-tinged, ripe, plummy, raspberry, black cherry nose with some minerally, faint sandalwood-tinged notes. Dry, medium bodied, very nicely structured, slightly spicy, attractive, slightly floral, still-fresh, ripe, plum-cherry-raspberry flavours with a lingering, very faintly savoury, bright finish. An elegant style that is drinking very nicely now. Perhaps a tad on the pricey side, this has 15% alcohol and under 4 g/L residual sugar with new rather recent lot number L23052 on the lower part of the glass bottle. CSPC 31698

TASTING NOTE: Swirls of black raspberry ice cream and dark chocolate combine in Vignon's 2019 Gigondas, a blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre from numerous small parcels dotted around the appellation. Matured in a large wooden vat, there's no apparent oak aromas or flavors, just the purity of old-vine fruit, creamy tannins, ample concentration and a bright, vibrant - and long - finish. With its combination of intensity and tension, it should drink well for a decade or more. Drink date: 2020-2030. Score - 93 (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, Sept. 24, 2020) Price $ 44.95
