BAROLO 2018 DOCG |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
GIANNI GAGLIARDO |
This fourth Vintages release with 94-points is the best to date. Faintly ambering medium to medium-deep brick red colour. The nose is intense, slightly spicy and bright with gently maturing, very attractive, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis fruit along with some sandalwood, red licorice and autumnal fallen leaf notes. Dry, medium bodied, harmonious, well structured, intense, harmonious, still youthful, ripe, Damson plum and tangy, red-cherry flavours with a lingering, sandalwood-tinged, seductively complex finish. Showing very well now, this traditional style Barolo needs a big glass and a still bit more time so it can evolve. Has 14.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L21186 on the back label. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2018 Barolo is streamlined and one-dimensional with wild cherry, lavender, tilled earth and light spice. This pretty wine delivers on the basics of the Nebbiolo grape with silky tannins and a long, polished finish. Drink date: 2023-2037. Score - 91 (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Aug. 11, 2022) |
