Reduced from $152.95 to just $124.25 there are 374 bottles in 60 stores as of 240217 (LCBO NOW FORBIDS ANY INTER-STORE TRANFERS). Of the 194 Vintages releases of Rose Champagnes posted on my website, this is one of the best tasted to date with 95-points. From a challenging, low-yield vintage came a refined, brilliant, astonishingly delicious blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Perhaps it was the addition of a special small batch of vineyard specific finished Pinot Noir wine representing 10% of the blend that made the difference. This bright orange-tinged medium-deep pink sparkling elixir has a gently complex, refined, fragrant, fresh, ripe, wild raspberry scented nose with some hints of plums and strawberries along with elegant, woodsy, gently toasty notes. Dry medium bodied, well structured, harmonious, ripe, bright, frais de bois fruit that lingerings on the palate with a crisp, beautifully effervescent finish. The latter is due to a hefty 7.1 bars atmospheric pressure, while the high 7.2 g/L total acidity has kept it totally alive even after aging 8 years on the lees (disgorged in June 2021 with a dosage of 7 g/L residual sugar). This batch has lot number L2195 on the back label and 2012 and 2113 printed on the still youthful cork. If you are looking for something splendid to taste, look no farther. |

TASTING NOTE: 45% Chardonnay, 55% Pinot Noir. Aromas of smoke and raspberry cede to a delightful mousse on the palate, with brisk acidity propelling complex notes of pear, melon and brioche. Well-judged, elegant and impressively long, this never wavers in its elegance. Score - 97 (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2020) |
