NEW in Vintages. This Grand Cru Saint-Emilion has a deep intense purple-ruby colour. Very intense, powerful, complex, ripe, maturing, Damson plum nose with lots of sandalwood-tinged, minerally, leathery, spice box notes. Dry, medium-full to full bodied, dense, rich, mature, Damson plum fruit with a hint of cassis along with some lingering, gently savoury, leathery, chestnut-cedar notes on the lingering finish. This blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc was matured in 50% new wood and has 14% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar. with lot number L142-193440 on the lower part of the glass bottle. A surprisingly mouthfilling red that is perfect with a tender bone-in rib steak. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2014 Clos de l'Oratoire is a powerful, intense wine. From barrel, the 2014 was tight and unyielding. It is pretty much the same from bottle. There is no shortage of power in the dark stone fruit, leather, smoke, lavender and menthol flavors, but I am not sure the 2014 will ever have the charm that is such a hallmark of the year. Today, it comes across as austere, even if there is good persistence and intensity in the big, saline-drenched finish. Tasted two times. Drinking window: [Now]-2029.
