CUVÉE NICOLAS VIEILLES VIGNES GRENACHE NOIR 2020 IGP Côtes Catalanes
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer DOMAINE LAFAGE
Deep violet-red colour. This 100% Grenache has attractive, intense, gently spicy, ripe, juicy, black-cherry-Damson-plum fruit along with some sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, spicy, fairly intense, gently complex, ripe, plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, sandalwood-driven, minerally, bright finish. Try with a grilled steak. It has 15% alcohol and only 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L22229B on the lower part of the glass bottle. It was aged in 600 L oak barrels for 8 months on the lees which added richness and mouthfeel. CSPC 354191

A Best Buy
TASTING NOTE: The wine is aged in very old concrete tanks with walls one metre thick. Gorgeously fruity nose and masses of pure, lavishly red shiny fruit. This is a delight. Peppery freshness, the sweetness of the fruit so well balanced by an orange-citric tang and a subtle tangle of dry herbs and cool liquorice root. Carrying its 15% alcohol with consummate ease. So easy, so approachable, but far from simple. When to drink: 2022-2026. Score - 17 (out of 20) (Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com, Oct. 5, 2022) Price $ 19.95
