PRENDAS VERMENTINO DI SARDEGNA 2021 DOC
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CANTINE DI DOLIANOVA
Vermentino is an Italian variety that has some similarity to Pinot Gris and perhaps in this case even more to Sauvignon Blanc. Bright pale straw colour, the nose has some slightly chalky, minerally, faintly leesy, floral, pear-lemon-apple fruit notes. Dry, medium to medium-light bodied but nicely textured, it has lots of fresh, ripe, lemon-pear-apple flavours with a lingering, gently mineral-tinged finish. Ready-to-drink and best with freshly grilled fish. The Cantine di Dolianova is a highly-regarded coop and is Sardinia’s largest producer. It has 13.5% alcohol and tastes as if it has only 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L222780 on the back label. A great refreshing warm weather wine that also goes well with oysters. The mouthfeel comes from leaving the wine in contact with its own fine lees for a month. Tasted side-by-side with the original 2019 bottle that was released and assessed using a Coravin 2-years-ago and was still in perfect drinkable condition. CSPC 17770
