MEGONIO 2020 IGT Calabria Rosso |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

LIBRANDI |
NEW in Vintages. Deep intense purple colour with a slightly spicy, sandalwood-tinged, warm, ripe, plum nose with no leathery and/or bretty notes evident. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, quite nicely structured, harmonious, ripe plum flavours with a lingering, harmonious, gently complex, bright, faintly tannic, raspberry-tinged finish. This 100% Magliocco Dolce (aka Marsigliana Nera) is a traditional Calabrian variety with 14.5% alcohol and under 3 g/L residual sugar. |

TASTING NOTE: The smoky leathery aromas suggest this wine suffers from some brett, which some may find hard to accept. Even so, this is a very concentrated, tannic wine, with a sweet attack cut by the firm acidity. Despite the high ripeness, there is no jamminess. The texture is svelte, and the finish, while leathery, is vibrant and long. Drinking window: 2022-2026. Score - 92 (Stephen Brook, decanter.com, Nov. 15, 2022) |
