SAUVIGNON BLANC 2022 Hemel-en-Aarde |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
SOUTHERN RIGHT |
This not-to-be-missed 2022 edition is by far the best tasted to date. Pale straw colour, the very attractive, fresh, ripe, pear-melon-apple-lemon fruit has those classy, mineral-tinged, faintly grassy notes. Dry, medium bodied, well structured, slightly spicy, tangy, faintly grassy, fresh, crisp, ripe, lemon-apple-melon flavours with a lingering, gently complex finish. Adjacent to the cold south Atlantic Ocean, it has 13.5% alcohol, 2 g/L residual sugar and 6.5 g/L total acidity - now in a cork closure. It spends four months on the lees in 90% stainless steel with 10% in neutral oak barrels. Great for seafood, it should improved over the next 4 or 5 years. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc comes from 27 sites and sees 10% matured in 7th fill neutral oak barrels after four months on the lees. Attractive on the nose with Golden Delicious, pine and light resinous notes. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, quite taut and lightly spiced; just a faint hint of stem ginger appears towards the finish. Enjoy this over the next seven to eight years. Drinking window: 2022-2026. Score - 90 (Neal Martin, vinous.com, Sept. 2022) |
