LA CAPPUCCINA CAMPO BURI CARMENÈRE/OSELETA 2018 IGT Veneto
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer LA CAPPUCCINA
An unusual organic blend of 90% Carmenère with 10% of the indigenous Oseleta from the 90-acre LA CAPPUCCINA vineyard which has been owned by the Tessari family since 1890. Fairly deep intense purple colour, the nose shows lovely complexity with some faintly savoury notes, It takes on an ripe almost Bordeaux-inspired quality with some hints of minerally toast and sandalwood. Dry, medium-full bodied, very slightly earthy, complex, gently firm but ripe, plummy-cherry flavours with a lingering, bright, gently grippy, attractive, slightly cedary, cassis-tinged finish. Aged for 14 months in new French oak. This ripe harmonious 2018 is best paired with roast beef or perhaps a grilled steak and has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L.776 on the back label. Better than the recommended 2016 (***) that was released on January 22, 2022 at $34.95. CSPC 22787

TASTING NOTE: An intriguing blend of Carmenère and the rare indigenous grape Oseleta, which was all but extinct in the 1980s. It's rich and long, with dark fruit, pepper, vanilla, and an attractive mineral note. The spicy character is nicely complemented by herbs and cloves, making for a layered, complex wine. Pair with mature cheeses or grilled meats. Price $ 37.95
