CUVÉE WINONA 2020 VQA Niagara Peninsula
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer LEANING POST
NEW in Vintages, this new blend of 61% Merlot and 39% Cabernet Franc offers lots of ripe perfectly accessible fruit at a great price. Fairly deep purple-red in colour, the nose shows bright, ripe, plummy, red and black cherries with some gently complex, toasty notes. Dry, medium bodied, well balanced, ripe, plummy, red cherry flavours with a lingering, gently cedary, lifted, nicely structured finish. Aged in oak barrels for 12 months (15% new) and (most important) unfined and unfiltered. Perfect pairing with a steak, it has 14% alcohol, 2 g/L residual sugar and 6.1 g/L total acidity. It is showing nicely now, but can age for another 5 years. CSPC 32020

TASTING NOTE: The Merlot for this blend was fermented in an open-top stainless steel tank while the Cabernet was fermented in concrete. Both were aged in oak barrels for one year before being blended, unfined and unfiltered, in May of 2022. The result is a ripe, broad-shouldered wine with lifted floral tones atop cassis, blackberry, raspberry, savoury Cab Franc herbal notes, chocolate, and a characterful graphite-edged minerality. Price $ 28.95
Bottle Size 750 mL
