CABERNET SAUVIGNON RESERVE 2018 WO Stellenbosch |

Not at LCBO - only available from Lusocape. Assessed at a DWC agent tasting on February 9. This outstanding 2018 Platter's South African Wine of the Year has an extremely deep intense purple colour. Complex, slightly spicy, warm, ripe, intense, plum-cherry-cassis nose that has some cedary, very subtle mocha-chocolate, star anise and cardamom notes.Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, dense, complex, bright, ripe, Damson plum fruit with cassis-cherry notes followed up by a lingering, mouthfilling, harmonious, still youthful, cedar-sandalwood-tinged finish. Try with a classic Beef Wellington. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested from 4 vineyards - Firgrove (32%), the Jonkershoek Valley (32%), Raithby (24%) and Simonsberg (12%) which were aged for 24 months in 76% new French oak. It has 14.9% alcohol and 1.4 g/L residual sugar with lot number L201106 on the back label. Approximately 4,500 bottles produced. Lovely now but needs more time to evolve plus a large glass - may I suggest the Riedel Ouverture Double Magnum 001. |

TASTING NOTE: From Raithby & Firgrove sites, with longer oak ageing (2 years, 67% new) than standard version. Classic cab in fine vintage shows pure elegance, more refinement than 2014. Score - 95. (Platter's South African Wine Guide, 2019) |
