THE MANOR HOUSE CHARDONNAY 2020 WO Paarl
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer NEDERBURG
Assessed from a bottle just purchased at the LCBO. Bright pale straw colour. Attractive, complex, intense, ripe, lemon-apple meringue nose with an abundance of toasty, caramel-tinged notes. Dry medium to medium-full bodied, fairly intense, ripe lemon-apple meringue flavours with some hints of ripe pear along with a lingering, bright, very toasty finish. Excellent value - perhaps better with poultry as opposed to seafood. Has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number LN101B21 on the back label and 15420 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Screwcap closure. Thankfully it is missing the tropical fruit and pineapple that appears in 2-year-old tasting note quoted (undated) in the Vintages Catalogue. Time and different bottlings can dramatically can a wine. TASTING NOTE: This is a solid, well balanced, well priced chardonnay that manages to capture good complexity. There is a nice combination of tropical fruit (pineapple), toast, hazelnut and cedary spice on the nose. It is medium-full bodied, fleshy, a touch sweet and warm but still nicely balanced. Some heat and lemon on the finish. The length is very good to excellent. Great value. Score - 90 (David Lawrason, winealign.com) Price $ 20.95
