CHÂTEAU DU GAZIN 2018 AP Canon Fronsac
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer
Not to be confused with the much more expensive 93% Merlot-based Chateau Gazin from Pomerol, this well-priced blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec (no Cabernet Sauvignon) is matured in 100% in French oak barrels (20% new) for 18 months with no filtration. It has a very deep ruby red colour. The bright nose shows plums, strawberry with a hint cassis along with some some gentle toasty notes. Dry medium bodied, harmonious, slightly spicy, ripe, plum-cherry-strawberry flavours with a lingering, very gently cedary finish. Ready to enjoy now, it has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. TASTING NOTE: Very pretty aromas of raspberries and light vanilla with some violets, following through to a medium to full body with lovely fruit and a fine finish. Creamy tannins. 85% merlot, 10% cabernet franc and 5% malbec. Drink after 2023, but already very pretty and classy. Score - 92 (jamessuckling.com, March 3, 2021) Price $ 25.95
