GRAND RESERVE 2017 WO Stellenbosch |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
DELHEIM |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Initial aromatics are intense and seem slightly green. The nose then opens up with some swirling which brings on a raft of ripe plum, cherry, cassis, sandalwood, cedar and mineral notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, intense, gently complex, fairly dense, ripe, plum-crancherry-cassis fruit along with a lingering, cedar-sandalwood-tinged, high acid finish. This tasty blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc is aged for 18 months in 300L French oak barrels and has 14% alcohol, 2 g/L residual sugar and 6 g/L total acidity with lot number 249-18-B1/3 on the lower part of the glass bottle. |

TASTING NOTE: A worthy flagship wine. Classic Stellenbosch cab notes of blackcurrant & dried herbs on stellar 2017. Elegant & ripe tannins give firm support, helped by sturdy oaking, 50% new for 18 months. Delicious acid freshness, excellent intensity & touch of vanilla at finish. Dashes merlot & cab franc, as in last-made 2015. Score - 95 (Platter's South African Wine Guide, 2022) |
