LA GRANDE HERMINE 1ER CRU CHAMPAGNE 2008 AC, France |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

FRESNE DUCRET |
It is quite amazing to find a Premier Cru Champagne from 2008 selling for under $100. Forward medium yellow colour, the nose is extremely intense, with lots of spicy, nutty, buttered toast notes layered on top of a lemon-apple meringue. Very dry, medium-full bodied, rich and mouthfilling with great effervescence - streams of tiny bubbles - along with intense, maturing, apple-lemon meringue flavours and spiraling minerality and acidity along with creme caramel notes on the lingering finish. This blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir has 12% alcohol and 6 g/L residual sugar is really made to pair with food - a lobster bisque would be divine. Judging by the condition of the cork, this 14-year old bubbly probably spent half of its life on the lees, the other half on the cork. Definitely for Champagne cognoscenti - As of today (Saturday) only 43 bottles are available in 5 Flagship stores with lot number L051909 on the lower part of the glass bottle which is the tirage date (May 19, 2009). |

TASTING NOTE: This is a very intense yet nuanced and superbly balanced vintage Champagne. The nose is a blast of finely woven brioche, baked apple, lemon, hay and hazelnut - classic aromatics. It is medium bodied, bracing, dry with great acid grip and minerality. Such focus and outstanding length. Such presence! Score - 95 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, Sept. 18, 2020) |
