ESTATE PINOT NOIR 2018 VQA Vinemount Ridge, Niagara Peninsula
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer WESTCOTT
This attractive 100% Pinot Noir has medium-pale garnet red colour and 30% was whole cluster fermented - all in French oak where it aged for only 10 months. The nose has some slightly gamey, gently spicy, wild cherry aromas with plum-raspberry notes plus a touch of toast. Dry, bright and medium bodied with spicy, ripe, crancherry flavours and a lingering, harmonious, ready-to-enjoy finish. Great with salmon and/or turkey. It has 12.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with 5.6 g/L total acidity. CSPC 427500

TASTING NOTE: The \"regular\" pinot noir sees 30 per cent whole cluster (as opposed to 100 in the Reserve) and wild ferment, followed by [10] months in barrel, then two years of bottle age. Just a pinch of residual sugar and well delineated acidity works in tandem with the markedly Bourguignons effect for a dreamy Westcott '18 that recites an elegant vintage tale. The aromatics mimic the Reserve, tar and roses, teas and forest scents. Terrific equanimity between all parts, so well served, enticing and gregarious. More openness here and the invitation will stay that way for a few years, at the very least. Drink 2021-2025. Tasted October 2021 and April 2022.
