CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2018 Gualtallary, Valle de Uco, Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MATIAS RICCITELLI
NEW in Vintages. This extremely deep intense purple coloured 100% Cabernet Sauvignon has an intense, very youthful, somewhat herbal, firm, plum nose with faintly dusty, minerally notes. Very dry, medium-full bodied, dense, somewhat tight, youthful, herb-tinged, plum fruit flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, complex, mineral-driven,faintly bitter finish. Rather austere at the moment, it has 14% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 17522 on the back label. There is no information on the winery website explaining how this wine was made which would have helped me understand where it is going. Be aware that the bottle tasted today seems to be vastly different from the year-old 96-point review appearing on the LCBO website. CSPC 24883

TASTING NOTE: Los Chacayes usually produces wines that are intense in tannins with lots of rough texture, although in this case it's not. Riccitelli has taken great care in the extraction of those tannins in the cellar, macerating gently and obtaining a wine that's delicious in its expression of a mountain red, with its herbal aromas and the red fruits that explode here with a delicious intensity. On the palate it has that nervy smoothness built of firm, juicy, and electric tannins in a cabernet that shines with intensity and refreshes at every stage.
