SYRAH/VIOGNIER 2018 Tupungato, Mendoza
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer EL ENEMIGO
This ripe, bright, harmonious Argentine blend of 92% Syrah and 8% Viognier has a lot going for it. Surprisingly fresh for a 2018, it has an extremely deep intense purple colour and a very fragrant floral nose with some ripe black cherry fruit. Dry medium bodied, harmonious, slightly spicy, ripe, cassis-black-cherry-plum fruit flavours with a lingering, well balanced, slightly spicy, cassis-tinged, gently cedary, very faintly smoky finish. It’s ready-to-drink and has 13.5% alcohol and 5 g/L residual sugar with number 2-22215 on the back label. CSPC 19390

TASTING NOTE: The 2018 Syrah-Viognier El Enemigo is mostly Syrah with an 8% portion of Viognier from Gualtallary, Uco Valley and spent seven months aging in old foudres. Bright purple in hue, this Cote Rotie style Syrah offers diaphanous aromas of dark fruit, spices, blackberry, blueberry and pepper with hints of smoke and a whiff of something floral. The 2018 is relaxed but compact on the palate and has fine tannins that help structure the flow. It has a mild, juicy freshness that leaves the mouth full of flavor while a gentle touch of chalk brings texture. This is a surprisingly rewarding wine. Drinking window: 2021-2033.
