ALBARIÑO 2020 DO Rías Baixas |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
CASTELO DO MAR |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Rías Baixas in northwest Spain lies just north of Portugal on the Atlantic coast and is the home of Albarino which constitutes more than 90% of its wines. Bright medium-light straw colour, this 2020 has an attractive, floral, ripe, yellow-plum-apple-melon purée nose with some faintly mineral notes . Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, harmonious, slightly spicy, crisp, ripe, yellow plum, lemon and apple flavours with a lingering, mineral-tinged, unoaked finish. Ready-to-drink and perfect with seafood. Has 13% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with Lotte 54 on the back label. A versatile, ready-to-drink, crowd-pleaser with a screwcap closure. |

TASTING NOTE: With over 30 years of winemaking history and a solid fanbase in Spain, Castelo do Mar has also built quite a following here in Ontario over the past few years. This will be a floral, pretty wine that will offer suggestions of honey, pear, peach and citrus. Always balanced and lively, it's a good choice for grilled shrimp or scallops. |
