HACIENDA SOLANO SELECCIÓN 2019 DO Ribera del Duero |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

HACIENDA SOLANO |
NEW in Vintages. This 97% field blend Tempranillo with 3% Albillo from Ribera del Duero is big, bold and well textured with lots of complexity - certainly a destination red for fans of fine Spanish wine. Deep intense purple colour with a gently complex, intense, ripe, Damson plum nose with some very gently leathery cassis, sandalwood and cedar-tinged minerality. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, complex, bright, ripe, cassis-cherry-plum flavours with a lingering, complex, harmonious, faintly grippy finish. Outstanding value, it was aged for 8 months in French oak (225L to 550L barrels) along with a portion in cement tanks has 14% alcohol and 1.5 g/L residual sugar with lot number L-1SE-CN19-1289 on the back label. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2019 Selección is mostly Tempranillo with 2% white Albillo from small plots in the village of La Aguilera that fermented in concrete and stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in used 225-liter oak barrel (one-third of the volume) and concrete. 2019 is a riper year than 2018; they picked early to avoid excess ripeness, and in fact, they finished when some people hadn't yet started! The wine is juicy and round, with very integrated oak and a soft mouthfeel. This is very tasty with ripe flavors and a long aftertaste. Drink date: 2021-2025. Score - 92 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, June 30, 2021) |
