JIKKEN BARERU EXPERIMENTAL BARRELS SAUVIGNON BLANC 2019 WO Western Cape
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer THE FLEDGE & CO
This NEW in Vintages well-priced W 2019 blend of 95% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Semillon from the regions Bottelary in Stellenosch (40%) and Western Cape regions of Agulhas (40%) and Elgin (15%) has a bright very pale straw colour. Coming in a screwcap closure, the rather complex nose still has some reductive notes when initially opened along with peppery, slightly salty, herbal fragrances layered over lemon-apple meringue fruit. It’s very dry, medium to medium-light bodied, slightly spicy, peppery, somewhat herbaceous with lemon-apple meringue flavours followed up by a very crisp, somewhat complex, high acid, still youthful, lingering finish. The name is a bit confusing as the wine never sees wood - it’s cold fermented in stainless steel and bottled after five months on the fine lees. It has 13% alcohol and 1.6 g/L residual sugar with lot number L19241B5 on the back label. The small lot Experimental Barrels series can move to different vineyards/regions from year to year. Only 10,500 bottles of 2019 were produced. CSPC 21157
