VIDAU RIOJA 2008 DOCa Rioja |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

Bodegas Escudero |
NEW in Vintages. From the challenging 2008 vintage emerges a 16-year-old rich Rioja that still has lots of life. This traditional mixed-vine blend of 55% Granache, 30% Tempranillo and 20% Graciano/Mazuelo has a youthful deep ruby-red colour. Beguiling, warm, ripe, Damson plum fruit nose with cassis and black cherry notes along with refined toasty-sandalwood notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, very slightly spicy, intense, bright, ripe plum-crancherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, faintly savoury, elegant, cedary finish. Has 14% alcohol and was aged for 16 months in new French oak. Drink to 2030. |

TASTING NOTE: Vivid ruby-red. Pungent cherry pit, red currant and cracked pepper scents, along with subtle vanilla and woodsmoke flourishes. Taut and penetrating on the palate, offering bitter cherry and red berry flavors underscored by a vein of juicy acidity. Delivers strong closing thrust, steadily building tannins and a touch of sweet chewing tobacco on the long, incisive finish. Drinking window: 2019-2025. Score - 91.
