LOU COUCARDIÉ 2019 AC Costierès de Nîmes |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
DOMAINE GASSIER |
This is the 2019 and NOT the 2017 that appears on page 31 of the Vintages Catalogue. It has a youthful deep intense purple colour with a very attractive, intense, rich, ripe, warm, Damson plum nose with some mineral-tinged, woodsy, sandalwood-cedar notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, harmonious, well structure and mouthfilling, the lovely, ripe, plum-black-cherry-cassis fruit flavours are followed up by a lingering, gently lifted, complex, slightly smoky, cedary, harmonious finish. Delicious and quite ready-to-drink. This new blend of 55% Mourvèdre, 25% Grenache and 20% Syrah has 14.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar. |

TASTING NOTE (now udated): A more Mourvèdre-dominated wine, the 2019 Costières De Nîmes Lou Coucardié checks in as 55% Mourvèdre, 25% Grenache, and 20% Syrah that saw one-third whole clusters in the fermenter. Beautiful red and black fruits, spices, dried herbs, cured meats, and peppery notes give way to a medium to full-bodied, impressively balanced 2019 with fine tannins and outstanding length. [Drink into early 2030s.] Score - 93. (jebdunnuck.com, March 16, 2023) |
