SOLAS ALBARINO 2022 IGP Aude |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

LAURENT MIQUEL |
NEW in Vintages and thanks to resident LCBO consultants, I discovered this highlight at the Spadina & Front Tasting Bar. Who knew that Lauent Miguel had discovered these vines while visiting Galicia (northwest Spain) and was the first to plant them in France. Ingenious. It has a bright pale straw colour and intense, attractive, mineral-tinged, ripe melon fruit aromatics with some gently complex, apple purée and faintly tropical notes. Very dry, medium bodied, bright, tasty, lemon-apple-apricot flavours with a lingering, crisp, well balanced, very faintly leesy, unoaked, refreshing finish. Stunning value - this night-time harvested 100% Albarino has 12.5% alcohol and under 1 g/L residual sugar with lot number L24/025 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Very food friendly - it would be great with seafood (especially oysters). |

TASTING NOTE: 'The idea was to create something really fresh, mineral and crisp, and get the purity of Albariño,' says Laurent Miquel, and he's done just that. From his plots of Albariño planted at some 200m on limestone in the Corbières. This vintage shows a peachy outline to the citrus fruit: bright lemon zest punches through a saline finish. Refreshing and drinkable. Drinking window: 2023-2025. Score - 90 (Natalie Earl, decanter.com, Dec. 1, 2023) |
