ENTOURAGE GRAND RESERVE BRUT SPARKLING 2016 Traditional method, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer JACKSON-TRIGGS
A FOURTH REPEAT of the 2016 (**+) that was released on June 26, 2021 at $29.95. Assessed from a newly shipped bottle just purchased at the LCBO. Bright medium-light straw colour with streams of tiny bubbles. Fairly attractive, slightly spicy, fresh, Anjou-pear-tinged, ripe, apple-based fruit with some lemon-melon-tinged, faintly mineral-toast notes. Dry, medium bodied, fairly spicy, faintly honeyed, ripe apple-melon-lemon flavours with a lingering, fairly fruity, crisp, gently leesy finish and good effervescence. This well structured blend of 49% Chardonnay, 47% Pinot Noir and 4% Pinot Meunier was whole-bunch pressed, clarified and fermented in individual varietal batches. The assemblage was tiraged on January 27, 2017 and this batch was disgorged on January 15, 2021 with now 48 months on the lees - not 36 months. It has 12.7% alcohol, 8 g/L residual sugar and 7.4 g/L total acidity. There is no indication of lot number or the date when this individual bottle was actually disgorged on the bottle. There is however a code 210115 on the shipping case. All in all, it’s ripe and ready-to-drink. CSPC 234161

TASTING NOTE: What a beautiful, nicely mature and elegant sparkling wine from J-T at a remarkably affordable price for a wine at this level. The grapes were hand picked from the estate vineyard and it is a blend of Chardonnay (49%), Pinot Noir (47%) and Pinot Meunier (4%) that was whole-bunch pressed, clarified and fermented in individual varietal batches then aged en tirage for three years. It has such a beguiling nose of lemon biscuit, green apple, brioche, creamy pear with a persistent bubble in the glass. It has mouth-filling flavours of apple, pear, quince, some tropical fruits and lemon tart with toasted vanilla, almonds, marzipan and a finessed, luxurious finish. There's pure elegance here that's reached a nice plateau and should continue for a few more years. Score - 93 (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, June 24, 2021) Price $ 29.95
