PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME LCBO STORES ARE SELLING THE 2016 VINTAGE NOT THE 2017. This new limited edition 2017 release is sensational. Ontario’s 2020 #1 award-wining winemaker Philip Dowell has transformed his blend of traditional Bordeaux grapes at KEW into something very special by adding in several tons (20% of the blend) of prime Cabernet Franc grape clusters which were slowly dried for 100 days. The results are astonishing - an unique reflection of what Niagara can do. Very deep intense purple colour, the bouquet is alluring with slightly spicy, ripe, cherry-plum-blueberry fruit along with gentle cedary notes. It’s dry, medium bodied and surprisingly well structured on the palate with bright, intense, still fresh, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, rather crisp, very well balanced, slightly cedar finish. This unique new blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Cabernet Franc (of which 20% were dried) and 13% Merlot has 14.2% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with a cork closure. Only 1,460 cases produced. It is the best yet - the recommended best buy 2016 (**/**+) was released on May 25, 2019 at $19.95. |
