GARZÓN RESERVA ALBARIÑO 2018 Maldonado |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
BODEGA GARZÓN |
One of 72 items (60% of 136 releases) not presented for evaluation under new LCBO policies. The agent did not provide me with a sample and, unfortunately, it was late in arriving at LCBO stores. Here is my note: Very bright medium straw colour. Slightly spicy, fresh, youthful, lemon nose with lots of mineral notes. Dry, medium to medium-light bodied, very gently spicy, vibrant, ripe, lemon-apple flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid mineral-tinged, very crisp, unoaked finish. Almost Chablisesque, this 100% Albarino has 14% alcohol and only 3.7 g/L residual sugar (not 6 g/L as posted on the LCBO website) with lot number RA300818 on the back label. Screwcap closure. |

Albariño is the flagship white wine for Garzón and was actually the first varietal planted on the property. The grape thrives in Maldonado; the region's proximity to the sea and soil is similar to that of Albariño's home in Spain's Galicia region. TASTING NOTE: 100% Albariño. Apricot and peach nose, a soft and textured palate with light notes of stone fruit and yeast, plus a long, mineral finish. Score - 90 (Decanter Asia Wine Awards, 2018) |
