GRAND CLASSIQUE CROZES-HERMITAGE 2015 AC
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CAVE DE TAIN
This is one of 73 items (130 releases) not presented for evaluation under new LCBO policies. This REPEAT of the recommended 2015 (***) with 91-points was last released on November 25, 2017 at $23.95. Hopefully this untasted shipment will be as good as the last, Here is my previous note: Extremely deep intense purple colour. Fairly intense, slightly spicy, ripe plum and black cherry nose with some slightly smoky, red licorice notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, tangy, rather spicy, intense, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, gently cedary, crisp finish. This classic, extremely well priced, northern Rhone Syrah from the small Crozes-Hermitage appellation has 13% alcohol and now 4 g/L residual sugar. CSPC 572230

TASTING NOTE: Saturated, deep black-red in colour with a pure, exuberant and exciting scent mingling notes of smoke, bramble, blackberry, blackcurrant and redcurrant. The flavours are joyful. There's a fruit core of singing lyricism, both vivid and fresh without being acidulous; the wine is tannic enough to give its fruit shape and gravitas but not roughness or austerity; and it has overtones which bring light and shade to the wine via faint notes of smoke, of cleansing bitterness, of the saltiness which is such a hallmark of parts of Crozes, and of the 'stony' flavours which lovers of terroir wine crave. A gorgeous success. Score - 93 (Andrew Jefford, decanter.com, July 18, 2016) Price $ 24.95
