TASTING NOTE: The very dark, almost opaque 2014 Pago la Pavina is a blend of Tempranillo with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon from grapes planted in 1987 on limestone soils. The two varieties fermented separately with indigenous yeasts, matured in French and American oak barrels for 14 months and blended after the élevage. It combines ripeness and power with elegance and freshness. The oak is nicely integrated and folded into the fruit. The palate is medium to full-bodied with supple flavors, fine tannins and balsamic notes that also show in the nose after some time in the glass. Drink Date: 2017-2020. Score - 90 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, Feb. 28, 2017) |
