LILÁS 2014 DOC Douro
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer Carlos LucaS
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Very intense, youthful, ripe plum nose with some sandalwood-cedar notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, dense, well structured, very slightly spicy, youthful, intense, ripe plum flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, cedary finish. In contrast to what appears in the Vintages Catalogue, the back label says that this is a blend of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca (not Tinta Barroca nor Tinta Roriz) with 13% alcohol and, according to the LCBO, 5 g/L residual sugar with lot number L27015 on the back label. TASTING NOTE: There's something special about harmonious teamwork and its ability to create something greater than the some of its parts. That sentiment applies to winemakers Carlos Lucas and Carlos Rodrigues, who have been making wines together since 1996, and to Portuguese wines in general, which are often blends of carefully selected local varieties. This 40% Touriga Franca, 30% Tinta Barroca and 30% Tinta Roriz features light floral and white pepper notes and a fresh, fruity, earthy palate. Sip this alongside some marinated chicken or pork skewers and it'll all come together. (Vintages panel, March 2017) Price $ 15.95
