GAMAY NOIR 2016 VQA Vinemount Ridge, Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
VIENI |
Bright lightish violet red colour. Very spicy, baked apple-plum nose with some spicy notes. Slightly off dry, medium-light bodied, very spicy, tangy, candied red apple peel flavours with a very crisp, somewhat short finish. No detour here - this Vintages “Local Find” is best avoided - it’s definitely not soft or silky! Has 12.5% alcohol and 8 g/L residual sugar. Better than the terrible 2015 (*) with 83-points that was released on June 10, 2017 at $17.95. |

TASTING NOTE: There are few wines more food-friendly than Gamay, which is something that Vieni, whose name in Italian is an invitation and a warm welcome, fully appreciates. This wine is pretty, with floral and spice notes, strawberry and raspberry fruit all caressed by soft tannins. Sip with ratatouille, burgers or pasta bolognese. (Vintages panel, Sept. 2017) |
