BARREL FERMENTED CHARDONNAY 2016 VQA Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

TRIUS |
This is the second time (second vintage) that Vintages has not presented this Trius Barrel Fermented Chardonnay at the press and consultants previews in the LCBO lab. Tony and I received a sample from the winery and here is our note. Bright very light yellow colour. Intense, complex, very toasty, cedary, lemon meringue nose with some hints of pineapple and coconut. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, fleshy, very toasty, cedary, intense, tropical-tinged, lemon meringue flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid finish. This opulent style works well in the ISO glass which augments the perceived acidity. A tad too toasty, for seafood, I suggest pairing it with poultry and/or white meats. Has 3.3% alcohol a 6 g/L residual sugar. It's a BUY for me. TONY ASPLER / 90-points / BEST BUY - Toasty, apple and citrus on the nose; medium-bodied, dry, moderately spicy, apple and green pineapple flavours with a long citrus finish. Great mouthfeel and deftly handled oak. |

Always a pleasure vintage after vintage, this Chardonnay is sheer luxury in a bottle (without a hefty price tag). Styled by winemaker Craig McDonald, whose expertise has been honed over nearly three decades in the biz, it's a smooth, round, vibrant, mouthfilling wine brimming with suggestions of baked apple, toffee and cream. Savour with pork chops and butter-braised squash. |
