SPECK FAMILY RESERVE BACO NOIR 2016 VQA Ontario |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
HENRY OF PELHAM |
The 2016 was not presented at the press and/or consultants preview in the LCBO lab - it was the 2015. Here is a tasting note from the sample sent to mel by the winery. Extremely deep intense ruby purple colour. Intense, fairly spicy, bright, very attractive, ripe black-cherry-cassis-plum-raspberry nose with lots of gently complex, cedary, American-oak-tinged notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, very well structured, harmonious, spicy, fairly cedary, intense, attractive, tangy, ripe black cherry, plum-cassis- rasberry flavours with a lingering, zesty, mouthfilling, faintly smoky, high acid finish. This is one of the best on record and should stand the test of time. It was a perfect match with a hearty bowl of French onion soup. Has 13.5% alcohol and 9 g/L residual sugar. Better than the 2015 (**/**+) with 88-points that was last released on October 28, 2017 at $24.95. |

TASTING NOTE: A nice warm vintage brings out the best in Baco with a concentrated nose of plums, blackberries, bacon fat, herbs and smoky/spicy notes. The fruit turns to cherries and raspberry on the palate with a supporting role from plums, blackberries tasted oak spice, savoury herbs and good acidity through the finish. Score - 91 (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, Sept. 12, 2017) |
