PORTAGE CHARDONNAY 2014 VQA Prince Edward County
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer KEINT-HE
Bright very pale straw colour with a faint green-tinge. Spicy, stony, very fairly peppery, maturing, baked apple nose with some cedary notes. Dry, medium to medium-light bodied, intense, slightly bitter, somewhat cedary, baked apple-lemon flavours with a lingering, faintly resiny finish. Seems to be past prime! Has only 12.1% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar. You can safely ignore the dated tasting note appearing in the Vintages Catalogue. CSPC 374819

TASTING NOTE: Keint-he's new winemaker has brought a style all his own to the wines, and it shows in the more approachable wines being made - especially the Chardonnays. Portage is all County fruit from all of Keint-he's vineyards: aging 10 months in new (1/4) and seasoned oak has brought a fruit-driven Chardonnay to the fore: apple, peach and lemon drop mesh beautifully with a creamy finish that's balanced by acidity in the form of green apple tartness.
